Ipoh Century Ride 2010 – 1.8.2010
On the 1st of August, cyclists from all around the Silver State will participate in the fourth Century Ride event at Bukit Kinding Resort, Chemor – Perak!
The previous event held together 540 cyclists, with some coming from neighboring countries – Singapore, Thailand, etc.; Organizers are expecting 600 participants this year!
The idea behind Century Ride is kickstarted by Kelab Road Runners Ipoh (KRI) where some of its members took up cycling as an alternative to running.
According to KRI president Chong Him Shoong, most cycling events in the country are catered to the elite or are state-level events. He said Century Ride is a challenging 160km-cycling event which takes cyclists through some of the most beautiful yet lesser travelled terrain in Perak.
The race will cover Chemor-Sungai Siput-Kuala Kangsar before returning to Bukit Kinding. Cycling route:
Every Century Ride for the past 3 years never cease to amaze Perakians with the cyclists’ unyielding passion to finish the race. Most would have thought of it as just an ordinary sporting event, but for those in the know, it was the Century Ride, an annual competition that saw its debut in the Silver State in 2007.
Why “Century” Ride? As the name suggests, “Century” refers to the 100 miles (161 km) route! How literal!
KRI is the first to organize a Century Ride in Malaysia while it has already been popularized overseas – Unlike most “hardcore” cycling events, there is no qualifying trial, nor discrimination to stop cyclists from joining an event like this.
Century Ride is not a competition and challenges one to finish the route with sheer determination! Awarding them one more point, it is the perfect meeting place for quality networking around the region.
Register latest on 25th July! Those who participate will receive a certificate, medal and T-shirt.
