Maxis Berhad (‘Maxis’), Malaysia’s leading integrated communications service provider, is pleased to announce its partnership with the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) as their official mobile service provider for OCM at the 2012 London Olympic Games for the first time. In this capacity, Maxis will be providing the Malaysian Olympic contingent with special mobile packages worth RM1,500 each, enabling them to have the freedom to connect with their family and friends anytime and anywhere, thus giving them peace of mind while competing at the world’s most prestigious sporting event and achieving their Olympic dreams.

At a signing ceremony held today at Wisma Olimpik, Maxis was represented by Sandip Das, Chief Executive Officer and Nasution Mohamed, Chief Financial Officer, while OCM was represented by YBhg Dato’ A Sani Karim, Deputy President, and YBhg Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi, Honorary Secretary. Witnessing the signing and exchange of documents on behalf of both parties respectively were YM Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda, Chairman of Maxis, and YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, President of OCM.

Commenting on the partnership, YM Raja Tan Sri Arshad, said: “Maxis has always been a firm advocate of nation building and talent development, and we are certainly proud to play a similar role in the country’s ambitions of sporting excellence. We are honoured to be part of one of the world’s biggest sporting event as an exclusive partner with the OCM for the first time.

“As the leading integrated communications service provider in the country, Maxis has remained committed to the dreams of our 14 million customers, and it is with this same passion and dedication that we are supporting the aspirations of our Malaysian athletes in attaining Olympic glory,” YM Raja Tan Sri Arshad said.

Meanwhile, YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran said: “We are pleased to sign up with Maxis Berhad today on this important initiative. I am confident that we have selected the right partner for this event, as they are the number one mobile operator in the country with the capabilities of delivering the best integrated communication services. This will indeed be valuable to our Malaysian Contingent at the London 2012 Olympics.

“The Malaysian Olympians to London, in terms of quality and standards, will be the highest since 1956, when Malaysia first participated in the Olympic Games. I am sure our Olympians will strive to fulfill not only their dreams but the dreams of all Malaysians, by winning the most number of Olympic medals and in the process winning Malaysia’s first ever gold medal,” added YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran.

Maxis’ partnership with OCM reflects its continued commitment in the area of sports and talent development. In 2011, Maxis introduced its Maxis Sports Ambassadors programme with the hopes of inspiring other Malaysians to strive for excellence at the highest level, by providing each Ambassador with mobile devices with wireless broadband packages. The athletes who signed up under this Programme included national badminton heroes YBhg Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat; squash player Azlan Iskandar; cyclist Azizulhasni Awang; and divers Pandelela Rinong and Leong Mun Yee.

Maxis’ involvement in sports has also been evident through its sponsorship of the Barclays Premier League since 2007. In 2010, Maxis was the main Malaysian sponsor of the FIFA World Cup, where live coverage of all 64 matches and related content was delivered to all customers as well as hosting Cabaran Piala Maxis in the East Coast states to nurture football at the grassroots level. Additionally, with the 2012 Formula One season currently underway, Maxis recently updated its latest Maxis F1 App for Formula One fans, featuring detailed information for all the races with exclusive live commentary, top stories, results, schedule, standings, drivers, teams, circuit info, and many more.

Maxis also offers its customers an integrated sporting experience, delivering latest updates and news on football, F1, tennis and golf on multiple screens with subscription at the Maxis WAP portal at www.maxis.com.my or at the MyLaunchPad destination portal.
